FARETS BICYCLES "The Chunk"
Neo Retro ATB: A Blend of Old and New
"Neo Rétro ATB "
"The Chunk" is a new model, an improved version of "CHUNK" manufactured by "RAIZIN WORKS" for "CRUMB WORKS."
It was released under the name of our new brand, "FARETS BICYCLES."
"Neo Rétro ATB??"
"All Terrain Bike"
This refers to a "all-terrain bicycle" designed to comfortably ride on all types of surfaces, from paved roads to gravel paths and mountain trails.
It is abbreviated as "ATB" from "All Terrain Bike."
It later became known as a "mountain bike" and sparked an explosive boom worldwide in the 90s.
Is "CHUNK" a mountain bike?
The answer is NO.
Like the uncertain, trial-and-error bikes of the early days of the 80s, our "CHUNK" is the result of repeated trial and error.
It's too soon and too unrefined to call it a "mountain bike."
As I collected frames and magazines from the 80s and 90s, and explored the "ATB" envisioned by riders and builders of that era, I became fascinated by the term "all-terrain bike."
And then I reinterpreted the "all-terrain bike" and projected modern specifications onto it.
It is old and new. An ambiguous bike.
The ambiguous phrase "Neo Rétro ATB" fit my thoughts perfectly.
How to enjoy "The CHUNK"
The first time you see “The Chunk,” you might be struck by its unique and unconventional appearance.
What can this bike be used for, and where can it take you?
What parts should you use?
Many questions will likely come to mind.
But there's no need to overthink it.
“The Chunk” is a very versatile frame.
First, let's consider how you want to use it and what kind of fun you want to have.
・I want to ride a bit and enjoy forest roads in nearby mountains.
・I want to make my daily bike commute stress-free and comfortable.
・I want to try camping touring with bags and racks.
・I want to enjoy building it with parts I have lying around in the garage or old parts.
・I want to build a cool "papachari" (dad's bike) that makes going out with my kids exciting.
"The Chunk" will fulfill these desires and more.
Everyone has different ways of using a bike and different things they look for in one. There are many ways to enjoy it.

Step through ATB Frame ??
The long, gently curving top tube is particularly eye-catching.
The frame shape is similar to the familiar "mamachari" (utility bicycle) found in Japan. It's what's known as a step-through frame.
This is the defining characteristic of "The Chunk".
What size should we get?
Small, Medium, Large
You might be wondering which size to choose.
But I don't think we need to think about it too seriously.
"The Chunk" is a rough and free-spirited bike.
Roughly speaking, here's a rough estimate of the appropriate height:
Size S: Approximately 160-175cm tall
Size M: Approximately 170-185cm tall
Size L: Approximately 180-190cm
"The Chunk" is not a bike that goes fast.
Since it's designed for casual riding, the suitable height range is quite wide.
I'm 177cm tall and my usual size is M. But I can also ride S and L.
If you prefer a compact ride, the S size is a good choice, and if you want a more spacious and comfortable ride, the L size is also a good option.
You can go down one size, or up one size.
Choosing the size based on how you want to ride and what parts you want to use is also a good idea.
Imagine the colors, sizes, and component configurations, and enjoy the excitement!
Tire sizes are unrestricted.
26x2.8" / 27.5x2.8" / 700x50c
"The Chunk" can use these tire sizes.
The large tire clearance is very reassuring.
You should be able to use almost any tire you're considering.
If you're looking for a plush, voluminous ride, 26x2.8” is recommended.
The cushioning of the tires makes off-road riding much more enjoyable.
If you want to balance nimble handling with a soft ride, something like 27.5 x 2.6 inches is ideal.
It can easily handle any terrain.
If you want to go faster, 700x50c tires would be a good option.
It should turn out to be a gravel bike that belies its laid-back appearance.
A wide range of tire sizes allows you to achieve the style you desire.
Where do you want to go, and how do you want to use "The Chunk"?
Try to let your imagination run wild.
I'm sure it will become the perfect "The Chunk" for you.
